The Club Nàutic Sant Feliu de Guíxols has started this weekend the VII Guíxols Cup in the modalities of Europe and 420. A total of 40 sailors participated; 26 have done so in Europe class and 7 pairs have done so in 420.

In class Europe, the gold has been for Ramon Figueras of the Club Nàutic Costa Brava & Club Vela Palamós, the silver by Dani Cabré of the Club Nàutic El Masnou and the bronze by Isaac Vilà of the Club Nàutic l’Estartit.

In 420, Nora Garcia and Mariona Ventura of the El Masnou Yacht Club won in first place, followed in second place by their clubmates Alejandro De Maqua and Pol Mateu and the duo formed by Pau Llibre and Alberto Marsans of the El Balís Yacht Club in third place.

Regatta conditioned by scarce wind

Time has been a decisive factor in this year’s Guíxols Cup. On Saturday, no tests could be held as a result of the wind shortage and it was on Sunday that 3 tests of each category could be played.

The complicated weather situation has forced the start of Sunday’s regatta to take advantage of the morning earthquake wind. The attention signal of the first test was given at 9 in the morning and the competition has been extended until noon when the lack of wind, again, has marked the end of the competition.

The Catalan Sailing Federation has praised the good organization and management of the Sant Feliu de Guíxols Yacht Club in the face of the complicated weather situation and the decision to advance the time of the tests to ensure the celebration of the regatta has been called correct.

This weekend’s awards ceremony was attended by the vice-president of the Catalan Sailing Federation Josep Maria Isern, the secretary of the Europe class Jesús Tello, The Councilor for Tourism and Events of the City of Sant Feliu de Guíxols Núria Cucharero and the comodor of the SFG Yacht Club Antoni Sabaté.

The VII Guíxols Cup will continue on the weekend of February 5th and 6th with ilca classes and will end on February 26 and 27 with the Optimists.
