This weekend of February 4th and 5th, the VIII Guíxols Cup returns to the Sant Feliu de Guíxols Yacht Club. After it could not be played in the Europe classes and 420 due to the complicated weather conditions, this Saturday and Sunday the ILCA enters the competition with more than seventy participants registered in ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7, among which there are master sailors.
The format
The regatta will begin on Saturday, February 4 at 10:30 am with a meeting of technicians. It will be at 12:00 when the warning signal of the first test is given.
A maximum of six events are scheduled and three will be held per day. An extra test can be navigated if you get tangled up with the program. The regatta will be valid with a single race.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 5 at around 5:00 p.m.
The race
The competition, which began on 21 and 22 January with the Europe and 420 classes, follows the model of recent years and is broken down into three weekends in order to maintain the quality of the regatta and the level of satisfaction of the participants, who highlight the personalized and close treatment. After this second weekend of competition, the last appointment will be with the Optimists on the last weekend of November, in a test that will be part of the regatta calendar for the 2023-2024 season.
The Guíxols Cup 2023 is sponsored by Escola Nàutica Mediñà, Fast Mast, Imnasa and Helena Jornet Finques and has the support of the Catalan Sailing Federation, the Girona Provincial Council and the Sant Feliu de Guíxols City Council.
History
The Guíxols Cup, named after the city of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, was born in 2016 at the Sant Feliu de Guíxols Yacht Club with the support of the Catalan Sailing Federation and the City Council of Sant Feliu de Guíxols with the aim of organizing a regatta that would pay tribute to the passion for the sport of sailing that exists in the municipality, make the town known to sailors and family members and generate a positive economic impact.
Since its inception it has received hundreds of national and international participants. The last edition, that of 2022, had 120 sailors.
