  • The race

The Guíxols Medes is an ORC Cruise Race that scores for the Catalan Championships of Solitaires, A2 and height (Crew) that travels 75 nautical miles between Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the Odas buoy, the Medes Islands and than returns to Sant Feliu.

The start will take place on Saturday 11 September 2021 at 12:00 and there will be a call for the entire population to accompany the sailors to the start from the tip of the pier, to celebrate this important anniversary. It is intended that, in this edition of the Diada (an important Catalan bank holiday and national festivity), this nautical activity will be another event of the festivity.

The winners of this race will be awarded nine silver bars: one kilo for the first, half a kilo for the second and a quarter of a kilo for the third in each category.

All participants in the race will have free moorings the days before and after the event. In addition, there will be a special menu for dinner at the restaurant El Tinglado the day before the start of the race, as well as a breakfast at the Tinglado before the skippers meeting and the start of the race, in addition to a popular lunch on on Sunday once the competition is completed by the shipowners and crew. It will be a festive initiative, prior to the awards ceremony, which will take place outdoors and will feature a raffle of nautical gifts that will be carried out in compliance with all health protocols.

  • The commemorative book

To commemorate the half-century of life of the GuíxolsMedes Race, and to pay tribute to its participants, a commemorative book has been promoted written by the seafarer Lluís Sureda with the collaboration of the historian Daniel Pedrero which collects all the information available about the history of the regatta, the chronicles of the competition or the history of participants and winners as well as interviews and anecdotes of the sailors who have taken part over 50 years.

The president of the Sant Feliu de Guíxols Nautical Club, Albert Rosés, emphasizes in the book’s prologue that “from the Board of Directors of the Sant Feliu de Guíxols Nautical Club we are aware that we have a precious treasure in our hands. We must take care of it to make it last many more years and so continues to be an indisputable meeting point for all sailing lovers ”.
